Depend: a Design Environment for Prediction and Evaluation of System Dependability

چکیده
This paper describes the development of DEPEND, an integrated simulation environment for the design and dependability analysis of fault-tolerant systems. DEPEND models both hardware and software components at a functional level, and allows automatic failure injection to assess system performance and reliability. It relieves the user of the work needed to inject failures, maintain statistics and output reports. The automatic failure injection scheme is geared toward evaluating a system under high stress (workload) conditions. The failures which are injected can affect both hardware and software cornportents. To illustrate the capability of the simulator, a distributed system which employs a predictionbased, dynamic load-balancing heuristic is evaluated. Experiments are conducted to determine the impact of failures on system performance and, to identify the failures to which the system is especially susceptible.

DEPEND: A Simulation-Based Environment for System Level Dependability Analysis
The design and evaluation of highly reliable computer systems is a complex issue. Designers mostly develop such systems based on prior knowledge and experience and occasionally from analytical evaluations of simplified designs. This paper presents a simulation-based environment called DEPEND which is especially geared for the design and evaluation of fault-tolerant architectures. DEPEND is uniq...

متن کاملA new classification system for evaluation and prediction of unplanned dilution in cut-and-fill stoping method
Production planning in mineral exploitation should be undertaken to maximize exploited ore at a minimum unplanned dilution. Unplanned dilution reduction is among the ways to enhance the quality of products, and hence, reduce the associated costs, resulting in a higher profit. In this way, firstly, all the parameters contributing to unplanned dilution in underground stopes and specifically the c...
متن کاملDGSS: A Dependability Guided Job Scheduling System for Grid Environment
Due to the diverse failures and error conditions in grid environments, node unavailability is increasingly becoming severe and poses great challenges to reliable job scheduling in grid environment. Current job management systems mainly exploit fault recovery mechanism to guarantee the completion of jobs, but sacrificing system efficiency. To address the challenges, in this paper, a node TTF (Ti...
متن کاملReliability Prediction in Dependability Models Considering Transient Faults
To evaluate the dependability properties of mission-critical systems like reliability, safety, availability, maintainability etc. a Markov chain models can be used. However the dependability prediction using these models is focused only on the stuck-at faults even though the system is exposed to the influence of transient faults produced by the operational environment. It is the aim of this pap...
